I'm giving thanks

As I jogged along the streets in the Uniontown Salvation Army's "Turkey Trot" this morning, I could not help but think of what this holiday means. Although the world around us may be turbulent and unsettled, it is important to take stock and give thanks. I have so much to be thankful for. I look at the New York skyline and am awestricken by my city. I come to Uniontown and am proud that I was able to grow up in a town that is a working class, Patriotic place where its residents know how blessed we are to be Americans. I look at my family, my friends, my elders, and I am amazed at their unconditional love and support. They are such a blessing to me.
This year in particular, I am thankful for my healthy family. I'm thankful that during a time when I was without steady work, I was able to learn more and hone my journalism skills. I was able to use my two legs to run a marathon and I was able to use my voice to sing my heart out with my first cabaret performance. Life is such a gift that I've grown to appreciate and on this day I am so very thankful.
As we sit together at our Thanksgiving tables, let's say a prayer of thanks for those who came before us and let's raise our glasses to the men and women at home and abroad who fight to protect us.

With love and thanks,
CD
